How do I extend my existing passkey to an iOS device?

This article will provide an overview of extending your Beyond Identity credential from your desktop to an iOS device.

Instructions

This article is intended for users who have already registered a Beyond Identity passkey on another device. This process creates a backup version of your passkey in case you ever delete it from the original device and need to restore it. 

1. Download the Beyond Identity Authenticator to your iOS device:

   • You can do this by navigating to the App Store and search for “Beyond Identity.”
   • You can also navigate to https://app.byndid.com/downloads, then click “Download for iOS,” which will take you to the App Store.

2. Open the Beyond Identity Authenticator on your iOS device. 
   
   
   
3. Tap Next. 
   
   
   
4. Tap Get started. The camera activates so you can either scan a QR code from the Desktop device or can manually enter a code. 
   
   
5. Open the Beyond Identity Authenticator on your DESKTOP device where the original passkey is installed.
   • On Mac, you can do this by clicking the Beyond Identity Y icon at the very top of your screen by the WiFi and sound icons.
   • On Windows, you can find the Beyond Identity Authenticator located in the system tray near the WiFi, time, and date settings. You may need to click the ^ icon to display the icon in the Windows system.
     This example uses a Windows desktop device.
     
     
     
6. In the right panel, click Set up other devices as shown above. 
   Given this is a high-risk transaction, you’ll be prompted to authenticate before being able to extend your credential to another device.
   
   Remember not to share your screen while adding the passkey, or keep the code open too long.
   
   Note: If you have more than one passkey, you will need to select the passkey you want to extend from the list on the left.
   
   
7. Go back to your iOS device and either scan the code or tap Enter 9-character code instead and enter the code. This will extend the passcode to your iOS device. 
   
   
   
8. A message states that the passkey has been successfully set up on this device.
